The European Parliament adopted a resolution calling on the EU to "work on starting accession negotiations and support a road map" for Ukraine, RFE/RL reports .
"Regarding the prospect of Ukraine's membership in the EU, the text (resolution) requires the EU to "work on the start of accession negotiations and support a road map that outlines the next steps for Ukraine's accession to the EU single market," the press service of the institution said in a statement.

At the same time, MEPs emphasize that accession is a process based on merit, which involves compliance with relevant procedures, as well as the implementation of EU-related reforms and accession criteria. They call on the Ukrainian authorities to introduce significant reforms as soon as possible for effective alignment with the EU membership criteria.
The European Parliament also calls on EU member states to increase and speed up military aid to Kyiv, including the provision of weapons, as well as infrastructural, financial and humanitarian support. Deputies called on EU leaders at the upcoming summit in Kyiv to prioritize "a comprehensive package of measures to restore Ukraine."
Earlier, the Voice of America reported that on the eve of the first Ukraine-EU summit since Russia's war, Ukrainian leaders announced the earliest possible entry into the European Union and NATO as the embodiment of the aspirations of Ukrainians for peace, freedom and well-being in the European family, as well as a way to attract the international community to immediate assistance Ukraine.
The EU responded to Kyiv's request in February 2022, granting Ukraine official membership candidate status in June, starting the process of preparing for accession.
