In his "State of the State" speech, Biden mentioned Ukraine, called for reforms and bipartisan cooperation

President Joe Biden in his speech "On the state of affairs in the country" emphasized the support of the United States of Ukraine in the face of Russian aggression.

"Yes, we planned to defend. And yes, we did. Together we did what America always does best. We are in the lead. We united NATO and built a global coalition. We oppose Putin's aggression. We stand with the Ukrainian people ," the US president said in a speech.

Joe Biden added: “Our strength is not only the example of our strength, but also the strength of our example. Remember - the world is watching. I spoke from this hall a year ago, just days after Vladimir Putin unleashed his brutal attack on Ukraine. A deadly attack that evokes images of the death and destruction Europe experienced during World War II. Putin's invasion became the test of the ages. The test of America. The test of the world. Will we stand up for the most important principles? Will we defend sovereignty? Will we defend the right of people to live free from tyranny? Will we stand up for the protection of democracy? Such protection is important to us because it preserves the peace and deters potential aggressors from threatening our security and prosperity. In a year we will know the answer."

Ambassador of Ukraine to the USA Oksana Markarova was among the guests of honor during US President Joe Biden's speech "On the state of affairs in the country" before the Congress . In his speech, Biden called her a person who "represents not only her nation, but also the courage of her people.

"We will be with you as long as necessary. Our nation is working to increase freedom, dignity and peace not only in Europe, but everywhere," President Biden said.

Bipartisan unity

The president emphasized the need for representatives of different parties to cooperate from the very beginning of his speech.

“To my Republican friends, if we could work together in the last Congress, there's no reason we can't work together and find consensus and important things in the new Congress as well. People have sent us a clear message: fighting for fighting's sake, power for power's sake, conflict for conflict's sake will lead to nothing. And this has always been my vision of the country: to restore the soul of the nation, to rebuild the backbone of America: the middle class, to unite the country," said Democratic President Biden

"I look forward to working with you," he told newly elected Republican-majority House Speaker Kevin McCarthy.

Biden paid tribute to lawmakers from both parties who supported important legislation for the country, including a trillion-dollar infrastructure bill and expanding veterans' health care.

"As we gather here tonight, we are writing the next chapter in a great American story, a story of progress and resilience. When world leaders ask me to define America, I define our country in one word: opportunities," the president emphasized.

Economic recovery

Biden's speech "On the state of affairs in the country" sounds at a time when the US government reported low unemployment and salaries in the country are starting to rise. However, the country's public debt remains at a record high, and the country is still recovering from inflation.

Joe Biden: “Inflation has become a global problem because of the pandemic, which has disrupted supply chains, and because of Putin's unfair and brutal war in Ukraine, which has disrupted energy supplies and food exports, blocking grain in Ukraine. But we have a better position than any other country on Earth."

"The history of America is a history of progress and resilience, we have always moved forward. We are the only country that has come out of every crisis stronger than when we entered it. See all. Here's what we're doing again. Two years ago, our economy faltered. As I stand here tonight, we have created - with the help of many people here - a record 12 million new jobs - more jobs created in two years than any president has created in four years," said the US president.

State debt and taxes

President Joe Biden has called on Congress to raise the nation's national debt ceiling. He emphasized that his administration "reduced the deficit by more than $1.7 trillion — the largest deficit reduction in American history."

At the same time, Biden recalled that during the time of his predecessor - US President Donald Trump - "the American deficit increased for four years in a row. Due to these record deficit increases, no president in four years has increased the national debt more than my predecessor," Biden said in his speech.
